It is a common practice at many restaurants to pack leftover food or delivery menus in plastic containers. When heated, these containers often release microplastics that are dangerous to human health. After being swallowed, these particles can cross the blood-brain barrier, which prevents most potentially harmful materials from entering the brain. Microplastics are believed to stimulate inflammation and oxidative stress, both of which have been associated with neurodegenerative diseases, including Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s.
